Save Acer Aspire One AOD150-1920 10.1-Inch Ruby Red Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life

I ordered my Acer Aspire One 10.1 Netbook (AOD150-1165) on Feb 28, 2009 from Amazon. Item shipped on March 2nd and arrived on March 14.

When I ordered only Sapphire Blue color was available but I am happy with Sapphire Blue. It looks very attractive. I would normally order either white or black model but I am glad they were not available :) The only thing I can complain is that it easily gets finger marks so I try not to touch the shiny surfaces.

When you unpack the box and hold it on your hand, you will realise how light this is (especially if you have been lugging a 17" laptop) This is very transportable and ideal for those small airplane tray tables (or your lap)

The 1.6Ghz N270 Intel Atom processor is a single core processor but it is pretty snappy and certainly more than enough for most office type usage. The Netbook ships with Windows XP Home w/SP3 installed instead of Vista so to me it feels as responsive as (or better than) a Core 2 Duo based laptop running Vista.

The unit is rather quiet. The fan or hard disk noise is minimal. The fan does not kick in often during normal use. It might be more active with some heavy CPU/HD activity tasks.

The screen is 1024x600 CrystalBright (shiny) type LCD but very comfortable to read under various light conditions. There is an integrated 0.3M megapixel (640x480) webcam and microphone embedded in the screen frame. Ideal to use a video phone/conferencing software like Skype, etc. BTW, to gain some vertical space on desktop, you might want to set Windows XP taskbar to auto-hide and pop-up when you move the cursor to the edge of the screen.

The keyboard is actually pretty well designed. Unlike some models from competitors, the shift, control, alt, tab, enter, backspace keys are all in the right places. Initially, I found the keys a bit small but after a few days of use, you get used to and avoid hitting two keys. The arrow keys could have been a bit bigger as there is room along the lower right side of the keyboard.

The touchpad on this model is made by Synaptics and is pretty configurable. Like everything else it is a bit small but works acceptably well. It would have been better if it was made wider. Touchpad buttons is another story. They are correctly placed below the touchpad but instead of using two independent buttons the designers chose to use one bar over the two buttons. This made the buttons much harder to press. I would have preferred two independent buttons. I think this is the biggest complaint about the design of this netbook. Nevertheless, the buttons do get softer over time. I have softened the buttons out by pressing both ends of the button bar at the same time repeatedly. I do this a number of times before using the laptop each day. So, it is not that hopeless.

Well, I do try to get myself used to build-in keyboard and mouse but those that are doing extensive work can still attach a regular USB keyboard and a USB mouse. For example, Microsoft Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse 3000 is a perfect match.

Alternatively, you can tap on the touchpad instead of pressing the buttons. The synaptics touchpad is pretty configurable. You can configure a corner of the touchpad for right button and anywhere else would be left button.

The speakers for this netbook is under it. They are pretty loud and sound quality is pretty decent. However, since the speaker openings are underside of the netbook, if you are holding it on a soft surface such as carpet or bed the sound can get muffled as the openings will be blocked. It's not a very good idea to keep it on the soft surfaces for a long time anyway as this will block the fan vents as well and cause the netbook to overheat.

There is 1GB RAM memory on DDR2 SODIMM module installed (mine was made by Samsung). There is no on-board soldered memory (the description on Amazon is incorrect and is referring to older 8.9" model). The memory is easily upgradable to 2GB by replacing the SODIMM module. I upgraded the memory on 10.1" Aspire One to 2GB by installing a "Mushkin 2GB 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Laptop Memory - Retail" module (Mushkin part #991618). It works great! Please note that this module has CAS4 (4-4-4-12) timing instead of more common CAS5 (5-5-5-16). In other words, it is slightly faster memory as it has less wait states :)

The hard disk is a Hitachi HTS543216L9A300, 160GB 2.5" 5400rpm, Serial ATA, 8MB Cache disk. It's pretty quiet. I think there is plenty of space for most applications. If you need more you can attach an external USB hard drive or the hard disk itself can be upgraded almost as easily as the RAM memory.

The wireless chip (AR5007EG) is made by Atheros and supports 802.11b/g. The range is decent enough. I had no issues connecting to my home WiFi Access Point, at work or other free public hotspots. I used wifi at Starbucks, Barnes and Noble Bookstore and McDonald's among others (I get free WiFi at these locations since I have AT&T DSL). However, some users are reporting that they have some issues. The Atheros driver installed by default is old (version 7.6.0.260). The latest I have found for the AR5007EG wifi chipset is version 7.6.1.244 (dated 2/25/2009) and I believe might solve issues that some people are experiencing. (As a convenience, I've provided instructions at the bottom of this review for access to updated drivers) The device properties indicate that the WiFi chip is setup for maximum power saving. By the way, just like RAM and HDD, the wireless module is also accessible. Who knows, someone (or Acer) would come up with an replacement module for 802.11n or a Bluetooth+WiFi combo.

There is no build-in bluetooth capability. If you need to interface with Bluetooth devices you will need to buy a USB adapter such as Cirago Bluetooth BTA3210 v2.1 EDR Class 2 Micro Bluetooth Adapter or you can get a combo with a bluetooth mouse such as Logitech VX Nano Cordless Laser Mouse for Notebooks (Black) Update: Apparently, Acer Aspire One AOD150 models build for some Asian markets do come with build-in Bluetooth. It's a pity Bluetooth is not included for American version. :(

Like many other early adopters, the laptop arrived with Panasonic Built 5800mAh, 59W battery. It lasts 7-8hrs under normal office type work with Wi-Fi enabled. This is a bigger capacity battery than it would ship normally (4400mAh, also 6-cell) but most everyone got the larger one so far.

There are 3x USB 2.0 ports, 1x 10/100 Ethernet port, 1x VGA external monitor port and a single Multi-format flash memory card reader/writer (again, Amazon's description is incorrect about 2nd SD card slot). There are also a headphone and external microphone jacks and a Kensington style lock slot.

There is also a slot for 3G SIM chip beside the battery. My netbook did have the slot but no 3G hardware in there to accept the SIM card. Presumably some models will be equipped to have 3G wireless capability.

Unlike 8.9" predecessor, this 10.1 model did not come with a case. I picked a Neoprene sleeve from a local store that is designed for an 11" laptop (Sony VAIO 11.1-Inch Neoprene protection case). Please note that with 6-cell battery the width of the netbook is about 8.5". So, most 10" cases with width around 7-8" will either not fit or will require signficant stretching so choose your case accordingly. Actually, I personally use two cases. The neoprene sleeve goes inside a larger 12-13" laptop bag with enough storage pockets for the charger and other cables. When I go out to a cafe, I only take the netbook in sleeve and leave the rest in the car.

The netbook also does not come with system recovery disks. There is a Acer recovery utility pre-installed that will generate your recovery disks for you. You should do this as soon as possible. You never know when you will need them. You will need a USB attached CD/DVD writer and some recordable media (6 CD-Rs for System Recovery + 2 for Apps and Drivers, OR alternatively 2 DVD-R for Recovery + 1 DVD-R for Apps and Drivers). I've purchased a NU Slim USB External SuperMulti Drive DVD Burner ESW860 and worked for me well. It's slim enough to carry along with your netbook and you can watch DVDs if you like. You should be able to use it on any other laptop or desktop computer with USB 2.0 interface. Update: You can also order a set of recover CDs directly from Acer for $20. You need to go to Acer Support Website www.acerpanam.com and click on US on the map and select "eRecovery CD Purchase" link. It will verify the serial number of your netbook first.

Besides Windows XP Home, there is MS Works, a trial version of Microsoft Office 2007, a 30-day version of McAfee anti-virus suite and a couple other trialware installed. These can be uninstalled from Control Panel easily if desired (or needed).

Overall, I am very satisfied with it and highly recommend it. Obviously, I cannot talk about Customer Support/Service as I did not need to use the service. If your aim is to run your usual applications and surf the net with a decent screen size, this is the right one.

------
Update: Updating Atheros AR5007EG WiFi driver:

You can download version 7.6.1.244 (2/25/2009) driver free from Softpedia. Go to drivers.softpedia.com and enter AR5007EG at the top search box. Download the zip file (ar5_ar9_7.6.1.244.zip) and unzip it. Then go to Install_CD sub-folder and run setup.exe. When prompted choose to upgrade the driver. It's simple and painless... If you are still having problems after driver update, change the channel of your AP/Router. There may be high interference from a nearby wifi router/access point. Good luck!

Cheapest Acer Aspire One AOD150-1920 10.1-Inch Ruby Red Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life

I'll start with the bottom line: AAO 10.1" is an excellent netbook. I highly recommend it.

I chose it over the competition for one main reason: the manufacturing glitch due to which it ships with an "oversized" battery. This is not guaranteed, but I received it from Amazon on 02/27/09 and I was delighted to see that it did have the big battery. I tested it repeatedly, and the rumors are true: it goes on for 8 hours on one charge, while doing a combination of Web surfing, movie/music playing, word processing, anti virus file scanning and even some Matlab heavy computations, all with WiFi and Bluetooth on (see below).

In the pros & cons list below, I'm comparing it to my regular DELL Latitude D830 laptop.

Pros:
- Very portable, due to enormous battery life, small size, light weight and, last but not least, the fact that it stays cool (the DELL can really burn my lap).
- Fast boot up ~25-30sec; DELL takes 3-4 minutes on a good day. I know, this depends on the software configuration, not just hardware, so it may happen because it is a new clean computer. However, I typically put it in stand-by, and then it wakes up in 2 (yes, two!) seconds.
- Very fast WiFi connectivity, much better than the DELL (I mean the time to establish the connection to my Belkin wireless router, the data transfer speed is standard, I guess).
- Reasonable performance: most day-to-day tasks are as fast as (or faster than) DELL. Sheer number crunching (I'm doing a lot of scientific programming) is 4-5 times slower than DELL(with its dual core), but then it costs 4-5 times less, weighs 1/3 and runs 4-5 times longer. I'll take the Acer almost any day.
- For the kind of work I'm doing, I often need more than the 1GB of memory it comes with. I ordered from Amazon, received and installed a replacement of the standard 1GB SODIMM with the largest supported 2GB (Crucial 2GB 667 MHz CT25664AC667 DDR2 200-Pin SODIMM Laptop Memory, $24@Amazon). Installation was easy, except that one must be careful with removing the memory cover after taking out the screws - there are some stubborn small plastic prongs that are easy to break.
- Works well with my external USB DVD R/W drive.
- Bright screen, although I would have preferred it matte.
- Good sound.
- Reasonable keyboard (but I don't touch-type).
- Pretty solidly built.
- Beautiful blue color; not crazy about the exterior shiny finish though.

Cons:
- Actually I found only one significant design flaw: the touchpad buttons are extremely stiff, and the touchpad is very small - almost unusable. However, I am always carrying a small Bluetooth mouse with me, so it is not an issue.
- No built-in Bluetooth for my mouse and phone synch. However, I got a Bluetooth USB 2.0 Micro Adapter Dongle from Amazon ($5.50 with S&H). The only downside is that (a) 1 USB port is taken up by the BT dongle and (b) the dongle, albeit very, very small, still protrudes ¼" out of the side of the computer, so I need to be careful not to break the connector when I throw the computer around. BT works ok, but sometimes (rarely) the Bluetooth connection is not restored when the computer wakes up from stand-by, and I need to restart the BlueSoleil driver.
- Not a real complaint, but more of a wish: There is a little slot inside the battery compartment for a wireless 3G phone SIM card, but they haven't actually put the hardware in yet. It would be totally cool to access the Internet on 3G from anywhere on such a portable netbook.

Bottom line: excellent value for the money. I think my wife may want one too...

Cheap Acer Aspire One AOD150-1920 10.1-Inch Ruby Red Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life

I just received the ruby red Acer Aspire One D150 today, so the comments are preliminary, but so far, this machine has far exceeded my expectations. It boots up relatively quickly, had no problems connecting to my WiFi network, and has streamed live video without a glitch. I was lucky and received the bigger battery, which is lasting forever, even with several hours of watching streaming video and a movie off a USB flash drive.

I was afraid that the keyboard might be too small for my liking, based on the reviews I've read, but since I have small hands, I have had no problems with touch typing. The touchpad is pretty sensitive, so I have to play around with it to have it not be. The buttons for left and right clicks are a bit stiff but aren't as stiff as the reviews would have me expecting. All in all, a great little machine so far. I will update after I've had it for a bit longer.Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOD150-1920 10.1-Inch Ruby Red Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life.

Buy Acer Aspire One AOD150-1920 10.1-Inch Ruby Red Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life

Here's why I bought this little gem: I'm a writer/editor/publisher, and my office machine is an HP 17-inch laptop with all the bells and whistles.

But sometimes I get cabin fever and like to drive out to a scenic spot to work outdoors in fresh air and sunshine. An over 9-pound laptop hooked up to four USBs like a patient on life support is just too klutzy for that. I also travel on business occasionally.

I don't miss the lack of a CD drive. In just a few minutes, I transferred my data files using mostly a large-capacity thumb drive. If I need to load program files from a CD, I have an external CD drive.

Pros:

1. Light as a feather.
2. Surprisingly fast.
3. Beautiful, bright, high-res display. Easy on my "old guy" eyes. And if needed, I can output the VGA to my 22-inch flat-panel monitor at the office, if desired.
4. I too lucked out with the longer-lasting battery. This puppy goes all day without a sweat.
5. I'm still amazed that for Amazon's low price, I can basically clone off everything I need from my larger machine and travel anywhere by air, car, rail, or horseback and still get work done (though I really have to focus while on that darn horse)!
6. Both wireless and Ethernet connections work like a charm.

Cons:

1. Yup. Case collects dust and fingerprints better than a team of CSIs. But it cleans off easy enough.
2. Maybe it was just my unit, but I had a dickens of a time getting the battery to snap into place, even with the little slides pulled aside as instructed.
3. Not really a con, but some here have belly-ached about the small keyboard and tricky touchpad. I already had a great Logitech cordless mouse/keyboard combo, so I just ordered an extra receiver, slipped it into an empty USB slot, and was all set. I have a large-enough rolling laptop case (for the big laptop), that I can slide the Acer netbook, mouse, and keyboard inside any time I need to travel.

My first computer was a Commodore VIC-20, back in 1982 or so. I shake my head now when I look at this little Acer and realize the power and capacity crammed into such a small space.

Since Amazon goes only to five stars, I give this one six!

Purchase Acer Aspire One AOD150-1920 10.1-Inch Ruby Red Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life

I purchased this netbook a few weeks ago for a trip to Hawaii, as my old travel laptop needed to be replaced. (I did receive the 5800 longer life battery.) On the flight from San Diego to Hawaii (5+ hr flight), my Mom and I watched 3 movies downloaded to the hard drive, and the battery still had 3 hrs of run time left! Since the computer is so small, it was very easy to grab or throw in a daybag and run down to the lobby to check my email. It connected to the internet (wireless) VERY quickly. The web surfing was nearly as fast as my 17" hp laptop I use at home. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is b/c one of the shift keys sticks, and the touchpad isn't very fluid. It didn't bother me too much, as I do use it only for traveling, and the small size, bright screen, fast speed, long battery life, and great price more than make up for it. I would not recommend it for your home computer. I don't think the keyboard would hold up very well with heavy daily use. Order Acer Aspire One AOD150-1920 10.1-Inch Ruby Red Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life

This netbook is fantastic and my husband/I have not been disappointed. It's more than I expected from a $350 computer! The size is very convenient for travel.

Dh ordered a Sapphire Blue on 2-21-09. I ordered my Ruby Red on 3-11-09 (LOVE the dark red!) and both had the 5,800 mAh six-cell battery. Windows estimates around 8 hours on a fully-charged battery and that has been accurate. The only downside, in my opinion, is that the shiny case shows fingerprints. I'll live with it!

Be sure to read through the other comments as there are various tips that I've found helpful. I'm not as computer literate as these guys and I appreciate them taking the time to post. Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOD150-1920 10.1-Inch Ruby Red Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life.

Where To Buy Acer Aspire One AOD150-1920 10.1-Inch Ruby Red Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life

I admit, I had modest hopes for this little fella. My needs were simple and few - portability, functionality and affordability were all topping my scale. And in the Acer Aspire One AOD150-1920 10.1-Inch Netbook - Ruby RedI more than fulfilled them all. Portability - at sleek and very usable 10.1 inches (and slightly over 1 inch thick) the excess case bloat has been kept to a minimum and the screen is wide enough to allow the viewing of the width of an entire page at a time. The 6-cell battery does add some weight making the whole kit and caboodle top out at 2lbs 15.2 oz. Not a back breaker by any stretch (it fits neatly in my purse) and with a 160 gig hard drive and a 1.7 ghz processor it actually exceeds the specs on my 15.4 inch Toshiba Satellite! Functionality - Windows XP is as stable as they come and loading programs on here (with the aid of an external USB CD/DVD drive like theLG GSA E60L Super-Multi - Disk drive - DVDRW (R DL) / DVD-RAM - 20x/20x/12x - Hi-Speed USB - external - black, silver - LightScribe) is a snap! I swapped out the 1 gig of RAM for a 2 GB (like the Corsair VS2GSDS667D2 ValueSelect 2 GB PC2-5300 667 MHz 200-PIN DDR2 CL5 SODIMM Laptop Memory - More power Igor!) Super long battery life (up to 8 hours when running windows based programs and 6+ while running a USB powered aircard and a USB cooling fan) is an extra bonus. Affordability - at $349 ($358 w/RAM upgrade out the door) you can't beat it with a stick! I do wish that the folks who named the color would have looked at a few more rubies as it is more of a metallic brick red but still very eye catching. I touch type and the keyboard is smaller than I am used to but it is by no means uncomfortable (and my hubby who hunt-and-pecks likes it better than his 15.4 machine). With a few minutes of typing I was flying along like nothing flat! This is the perfect machine for anyone (writers, student's, Realtor's, etc.) who wants to have an easy to use, ultra-portable machine that they can truly carry with them all the time. I liked it so much I bought two, one for me and one for my hubby (so he'll keep his grubby little mitts of mine :-)!Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOD150-1920 10.1-Inch Ruby Red Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life.

I love my acer one. It's fast enough for me once you unistall all of the bloatware. Macfee and replace it with another av that uses less system resources.

Update the bios to 1.05. the temperature in CA, stays at 52-60C at full load.

Spectacular little machine that could do a lot.

There are three options this one, asus eee 10in, or lenova ideapad.

Cons, its has a noisy annoying fan, but you will eventually get used to it. I fear the fan will eventually die.Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOD150-1920 10.1-Inch Ruby Red Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life.

Acer Aspire One AOD150-1920 10.1-Inch Ruby Red Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life

-No bluetooth in this model. Bummed out, I was hoping to bluetooth some pictures from my cell phone... oh well.

-No 1024 x 768. There were some programs I use that had non-expandable windows, and I couldn't see the bottoms of those windows. I solved this by downloading a free program that allowed me to switch between screen modes. Called SMswitch. Very handy, and it was free. It is still a little annoying that I can't really shrink stuff on the screen to be able to see more without scrolling, but that's what I get for wanting a little guy.

-The keyboard is nice, quiet, doesn't keep up my boyfriend awake I type in bed. Easily change the screen brightness with a keyboard shortcut.

-It's not loud, at least not MINE... the fan goes on every once in a while, but it's a little whirr, and not for long.

-It's faster than my desktop PC that runs XP. It can run several programs at once, and starting them up doesn't take forever. Like itunes, limewire, firefox, photoshop, adobe pdf stuff, etc. =)

-The mouse I got for it is a little blue Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 3000, model 1359. The blue matches the acer blue perfectly and the USB adapter dealie fits in the bottom of the mouse when not in use. $18 on sale from target.

-Since it doesn't come with a CD drive, you can't make backup CDs until you get an external CD drive (or a flash drive large enough to put 9 cds worth of comp stuff on)...

-Overall very happy with it for what I use it for.Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOD150-1920 10.1-Inch Ruby Red Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life.

Acer Aspire One AOD150-1920 10.1-Inch Ruby Red Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life Top Quality

This is the perfect computer for a college student. With the Acer aspire one's long battery life (typically 8 HOURS), I can literally stay on campus all day and not have to worry about finding a power outlet. I use my machine for my computer programming classes and writing courses and couldn't be happier with the results! So much better than my dell laptop that recently died on me.

If you find that you only use your laptop for Microsoft office programs (word, excel, powerpoint, etc.) and the internet, I HIGHLY recommend this product!!! However, if you are a gamer or like to run highly sophisticated programs on your computers that orient to a specific major (let's say photography or engineering) I would suggest a more powerful machine with a better graphics card and dvd-rom drive.

One more note! This machine does NOT have bluetooth so unless you buy a usb bluetooth adapter, I would recommend a cheaper wireless mouse.

Acer Aspire One AOD150-1920 10.1-Inch Ruby Red Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life Immediately

I bought the Acer Aspire One after much researching, I was looking for a notebook with a really long battery life, so when I got the wild notion to lay in a field and work on my novel I could do so for 5 hours or so. (BINGO)

What I didn't expect was to fall so madly in love with this little computer. It's so cool looking, it's fast, it's got everything plus some things I didn't know I needed.

We have family all over the place and I never would have considered a webcam - duh. Its great my brothers can see my family when we chat, and that rocks. The webcam is really decent.

I have not had any problems with the fan or the touchpad. I used the Acer for four months now several times a day for long periods of time and have not had any trouble whatsoever with the fan or touchpad.

Initially I kept hitting the touchpad instead of the spacebar because of the smallness of the keyboard, but I no longer do that, I adjusted to it pretty fast.

I went with the white because finger prints would have driven me crazy. My brother liked mine and so I bought him the blue. The blue picks up a little more fingerprints and smudges than the white. I have done almost all my data transfering with a USB flash drive. I used my home office computers external dvd drive once.

Love the Acer Aspire One. I have not had any problems at all. ( i did contact customer support because of my own stupidity about a key code number, they were ultra helpful, didn't make me feel like a fool and in less than 5 minutes they fixed me up) Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOD150-1920 10.1-Inch Ruby Red Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life.

Acer Aspire One AOD150-1920 10.1-Inch Ruby Red Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life Get it now!

I purchased this computer because a friend of mine purchased one and I had the chance to used it and it seemed very nice. He recommended it me and I have been pleasantly surprised with its excellence.

It is small and light. It has a smartly designed keyboard, an excellent screen and a long battery life (I have yet to exhaust it in a single setting at about 4 hours of use without external power). It does not run hot and maintains a temperature well below other laptops.

The computer seems to be solidly constructed and fits perfectly in a pouch in a backpack I use. I Recommend that you keep the plastic sleeve it comes packaged in because it will help protect its very nice exterior finish. I just slip it in the plastic sleeve and then into my backpack pouch and there is no problem.

I must be honest and tell you that I never intended to use this computer for anything requiring a lot of high speed graphics and video, but it seems to perform remarkably well with websites such as youtube. A local news station's video doesn't perform as well, but I believe that is their problem. Their site works well with my desktop, but it a monster - I don't expect this gal to do all of that stuff in this small package.

I do hope they can expand the RAM, just in case, but so far I have absolutely regrets. I recommend this computer highly.

I have had my little RED Acer Aspire up & running for one week (it would have been sooner but I purchased a faulty router that had to be replaced) & I am not sure I have enough positive adjectives to describe my pleasure with this netbook. There are things like the keyboard that take getting used to but that is really no big deal ... I bought a remote mouse (Logitech V220) and love it as I had decided that I did not want to deal with the mouse buttons so I am not reviewing them.
I was told when, I called Amazon to ask some questions, that recovery discs would come with it but that isn't so ... so I guess that would be my only complaint.
I can't compare this to any other notebook/netbook as this is my first (I have a desk top) and I must say that I am over the moon with my choice.
I was able to put all that I wanted into this and get from website to website with lightening speed ... the battery last about 6 1/2 hrs. Am signed up with & use Windows messenger and the picture is clear, but tiny, and the sound is great.
I bought a CaseCrown to store it when not in use and the fit is tight tight tight but after a few zip-ups the case stretches a little and it gets easier to zip, especially over the battery. There is a front pouch were the mouse and adapter cord fit just fine.
So all in all I love this little Acer Aspire, love the way it balances on my knee(s), love the boot up time, the nice bright screen and it's size.
So yes folks, I am in LOVE!

I just got my Ruby Red Acer Aspire One 10.1 yesterday! I like it so far!

It's cute and lightweight. I was up and running on this cute machine, five minutes after getting it in the mail. I thought I would struggle to figure out how to get the system going (as I am not a technical person and have never had a laptop before), but it all went smoothly!

Pros:
Crisp screen/Nice screen size. It's much better than I thought it would be. I thought I would have to squint all the time.

Very mobile with the extended battery life. You are not stuck to an outlet.

Keyboard easy to type on and keypad easy to navigate. I read some reviews on Amazon, (before purchasing this netbook), and there were some compliants about the keyboard/pad, but they are both fine to me.

Cons:

The Internet does work a bit slow, considering I'm wireless. I thought it would be more high speed. It's not horrible, but I wish it were a bit faster at times.

I have mixed views about the fan. I read other reviews and some people either didn't mind it or it annoyed them. My fan is quiet for a bit, then it gets to whirring. It can get distracting at times. Then just as I'm getting a bit annoyed with the noise, it goes quiet again! So I don't know how I feel about this. I guess it's just something I will have to deal with.

No DVD/CD drive. I already knew the Acer wouldn't come with one, but still it sure would have been nice! But I guess you can't have everything!

Overall, I am thoroughly enjoying my little netbook. I would recommend it for people, like myself, who are new to the laptop/netbook scene. It's a great mini laptop that's not too complicated to figure out.

Thumbs up!

I purchased two netbooks for my grandchildren. My grandson kept pestering me for the smaller Acer netbook, and then the 10.1" came out. For the difference in price, this netbook is great. My granddaughter is 14 and wanted a laptop. I told her I was not getting her a laptop, but would buy this Acer for her if she wanted it. SHE LOVES IT!!!! Now, she's glad I did not buy her a laptop. My grandson, of course, loves his as well. I also really like it and wish I had one of my own. It is large enough for all the emailing, gaming, and internet searches that the children do. My granddaughter thought she'd mind not having a disc drive; she hasn't. For the money and the capabilities, this is a wonderful computer. We're glad it is a six cell. WE ALL LOVE IT. GREAT BUY FOR THE PRICE POINT!!! Amazon shipped fairly quickly, and I received them in two days. Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOD150-1920 10.1-Inch Ruby Red Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life.

Acer Aspire One AOD150-1920 10.1-Inch Ruby Red Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life Right now

I am by no means a computer expert. I just want a simple little laptop that lets me explore the web from the comfort of somewhere other then my computer desk. One that's not sluggish, and has a decent battery life. The Acer Aspire definitely fits the bill!

After an unfortunate mishap, my old Toshiba laptop (that weighed about 1,000 pounds) was left with a cracked screen, and an owner not wanting to bother getting it fixed. I figured it was time to get something new, something small, and something LIGHT. The Aspire was actually the first notebook I looked at. The price was awesome, the reviews were excellent, so I went for it. So glad I did!

I'm your casual computer user who mainly just surfs the web and plays a game or two (which I'm not sure I'd do on this since the screen is so small, I think I'll leave that for my desktop). If you're anything like this, then this is a great deal. You just can't beat the price for the quality of the product. Have had it for a week or so now, have been using it as my primary pc as had to send my existing laptop for repair.

Based on my experience so far no issues whatsoever, here's the pros:
1- Excellent size, probably the most appropriate for netbook, totally sufficient if you increase the font size.
2- The build quality is excellent, as solid as the best out there.
3- Excellent display and battery life.
4- Got black/brushed silver, looks excellent.
5- Have been very satisfied with the performance.

Tips:
1- As mentioned in other reviews..bloated a bit, I ended up removing a lot of software (note: burn the system recovery cds or you may lose the software if uninstalled)
2- Get a micro usb mouse and you won't have to use the touch bad, really enhances the overall experience.HP Wireless Optical Mouse
3- Mentioned in another review...there's a nice short cut on keyboard for display brightness...found it very useful...its FN + arrow keys.

Cons:
Wont let you save the recovery disk image on an external drive..this would have allowed me to burn the recovery disks from my other laptop which has the burner.

Note: Got mine at Bestbuy in Toronto, comes with a regular battery...lasts for 3 hours. Looking at the battery amazon is throwing in ie lasts eight hours...its absolutely an incredible deal.

If you need a CD drive you can get an external one which I have to add prgrams. It is super fast while connected to the internet. I purchased a mouse to go with it only because I am used to it, but the touch pad works just as well. I would recommend this to any one. Buying Acer Aspire One AOD150-1920 10.1-Inch Ruby Red Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life

A friend has bought an earlier model of the Aspire One and really seemed to like it. I myself swore off these netbooks long ago having had a 10 inch vaio way back when 300 Mhz was the "fast" machine. Such a small screen and resolution was not good for me and my uses. Well my friend chirped so much it peaked my interest so I started investigating.

I took the plunge and bought one. Wow! Impressed does not fully cover my reaction. Lighter than even the sony was, got the 5800Ah battery, nice roomy hard drive, great display and resolution.

Been shaking my head in disbelief ever since I received it. Far exceeds my expectations. Only a few downsides. No bluetooth, not a deal breaker but would have been nice. Mouse bar (not buttons) is stiff but I understand why so as to lessen accidental presses. Trust me, no way you will accidentally press either mouse button. As others have mentioned you can customize the behavior of the touchpad or go with an external mouse.

My personal biggest issue that loses a star on this one is the backup disc utility does not allow you to create an image that can be transfered to a USB device then to dvd or cd if you chose. It MUST find a dvd or cd burner which I personally find redundant considering obviously there is not one built in or included and most who purchase this netbook will not have an external burner "just laying around". I use a remote program to transfer files between my main computer and the netbook through my router so the creation of these discs is my only real issue.

3rd party backup software solved the problem as it allows you to create an image that can be burned or moved to a USB flash drive as you desire.

Performance again exceeds my expectations. I purchased a 2 gig memory stick with mine and installing was very easy and fast. I plan to install a 320 gig drive only because I like to have a bit more storage and this way I can keep the original drive intact if ever I am faced with repair or the hard drive dies I can just place the original back in and go along with minimal headache.

To sum it up, awesome value for everything this little wonder can do. Decent CPU speed, easy upgrading, amazing battery time, I forgot about the audio (which blew me away, better than my dell 1525!) built in webcam has very good picture quality and does great even in low light, display impressed me greatly as I had swore never anything under 15 inches till now.

If your on the fence hop off and get this puppy while they are still offering the 5800Ah battery! 7 hours is insane and just awesome! Acer Aspire One AOD150-1165 10.1-Inch Netbook - Sapphire Blue

UPDATE: Those who find the mouse repeatedly going into "page scroll" mode (swirly icon appears and can not move mouse) you must go into the help file and I found there are mouse settings in the help file to turn that feature on and off. A bit odd for the actual setting controls to be in the help file but that is where they are.Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOD150-1920 10.1-Inch Ruby Red Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life.

Buy Acer Aspire One AOD150-1920 10.1-Inch Ruby Red Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life

Waited to buy a netbook till the 10" Acer came out-my son on law has the earlier style 8.9"-which was a bit too small for my eyes!! Don't regret waiting-love the size, the color and ease of use. Agree with other buyers the left and right button a bit difficult to push, but really is not a big deal in exchange for all the other pluses. Love the battery-average around 5-6 hours power. Got this as my second, more portable computer-I love my 17" HP for the detail work, but then transfer documents as needed to my Acer for travel. The light weight and portability is great. Looking forward to using it on vacation for email and net rather than taking my HP which is bulkier. I've had mine for a about a month now. It's a great little machine. Perfect for net surfing and word processing. I am so glad I went with the 10.1 inch verses the 8.9. It makes a pretty big difference. I purchased the Ruby Red and really like the color. It looks great with the black keyboard. I recently took a trip and was stuck in the airport for half the day. The battery held up and didn't need a charge. It has been lasting about 6 hours. Overall, I feel great about my purchase and am happy with the quality and features. Acer Aspire One AOD150-1920 10.1-Inch Ruby Red Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life

I was looking for a compact laptop that I could use between home and work and also take on my frequent road trips to visit my family. My biggest gripe about laptops in the past has been the short battery life, so I was very pleased when my Acer came from Amazon yesterday (April 9th) with the 5800mAh battery. I don't know about speed with the standard 1GB memory because I replaced mine with 2GB (so easy a caveman can do it) before I ever turned it on. But it boots up fast and is surprisingly quick. I love the size. It fits perfectly in my leather notebook. I touch type and while the keyboard is a little small it is very easy to get used to. Like some have reported, the touchpad buttons are a little stiff but they have a positive feel to them. It's a non-issue with me because I hate touchpads in general and use them only in a pinch. I found a nice little Logitech USB mouse for about $19 that's even a perfectly matching cobalt blue. The first option you will need for most any of these netbooks is a good USB DVD burner to load your software and make backup emergency disks. I bought one just before I bought the netbook. The 10" display is bright and extremely sharp. The setup was simple I was up and running on my wireless network in less than 5 minutes. Most of my time was spent removing bloatware and building emergency recovery disks. This is really a great little computer with a solid feel and very attractive to look at. At the price you cannot beat this little netbook.Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOD150-1920 10.1-Inch Ruby Red Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life.

Acer Aspire One AOD150-1920 10.1-Inch Ruby Red Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life Review

When I first got the Acer the system just put out a beep and the system wouldn't start for like 10 minutes every time you touched something it would make a beep you couldn't control I realized that the keyboard wasn't working so it ended up being a loose connection after that those problems were fixed my next problem was the system wouldn't connect to my 64 bit wep connection I ended up having to re configure the whole thing till it worked but once you get it to work it is the most amazing thing ever it connects to my shared folders extremely fast I can run intense programs on it no problem and I get over 10 hours of battery after the initial stress of getting to work its a great buy it runs very smooth and the web cam has excellent quality some people complain about the touch pad in my opinion n best touch pad and button i have ever used it couldn't be nicer the screen is a great size. I would suggest this to anyone check your keyboard before you start it the first time it gave me a lot of trouble. But the pros out weighed the few things that gave me trouble.

Acer Aspire One AOD150-1920 10.1-Inch Ruby Red Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life Top Quality

Hey, I recommend this little gem to all my friends and co-workers. I own both the 8.9" Acer in Bronze and this 10.1" in Ruby Red. I like this newer version better because it's so easy to upgrade, and UPGRADE I DID. With hardly any effort, I switched out the 1GB of RAM for 2GB (Crucial 2GB 667 Mhz CT25664AC667 DDR2 200-Pin SODIMM card approximately $25.00 on Amazon), then slapped in a humongous 500GB Western Digital (Western Digital 500GB Scorpio Blue 2.5 SATA II Laptop Hard Drive, approx $99.00, also from Amazon). Just a tiny phillip's screwdriver is all that's needed for the exchange of physical components in the bottom of the case. You need to download the Acronis TRUE IMAGE Home Edition trial (or similar cloning/backup software) to the smaller drive and clone the original drive to the new drive before you swap them, but believe me, it's simple and my new configuration works like a dream!!! (You will also need a 2.5 SATA drive enclosure, roughly $10-$20 on Amazon or eBay to hold the new drive while you clone the internal one to it before transfer to your computer, but you can use it to hold the drive you take out and have even extra external storage) I prefer the slimmer suave 3cell battery and bought a couple of those online for about $26.00 a piece. (After all, who in the world would ever stare at such a small computer for more than 1-1/2 hours, the avg use of the 3-cell before recharging - without taking a break - and the batteries pop in and out so very easily) No worry, the 6-cell battery charger seems to be working fine with them. So for under $500, I have one RUBY RED 500GB, 2GB ram, video taking-chatting, movie/song playing, office-working behemoth I love and carry it with me on-the-go everywhere. I own a MACBOOK 13" Intel, and while I love it too, believe me, this little baby is every bit as powerful, only in a miniPC package and a whole lot lighter. And if you wanna top it off with a nice genuince leather case (3 different colors, smooth or crocodile) you can always find them (PDair) online to fit this little baby too.Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOD150-1920 10.1-Inch Ruby Red Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life.

Acer Aspire One AOD150-1920 10.1-Inch Ruby Red Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life This instant

I read many other reviews before buying this and had full confidence putting money down on this netbook. Everything I read was good. However, after having mine for three weeks I'm finding some very annoying flaws.

The first flaw I'm noticing is it seems the range for wireless is suffering. I used to connect to unsecure networks in various other places with my old 17inch notebook. With this netbook I can't connect to them unless I get much closer to the source, then the connection is bad. This hurts me, as I mostly bought it for using it in these areas.

Another flaw is it does not play hi-res videos well. Some videos it can't keep up with the sound. Very disappointing considering this is another main reason I bought it.

My last minor flaw is the glossy screen can be hard to see at times. Though not that bad, it can be annoying.

This is still an excellent netbook. It is fast, light weight, and superb battery life. It can even run WoW at low settings and is very playable for basic play. Sadly, I can't play it in my old hot spot location do to not picking up the wireless connections.

Overall, this is a great buy, but be weary you may have trouble connecting to further wireless sources and if you plan on watching any HD video, you may find some slow down.Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOD150-1920 10.1-Inch Ruby Red Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life.

The first thing I did was add the extra ram for a total of 2 GB, eliminated all the junk software and added my own Norton Internet Security software. It works great all over my house with the Verizon Fios wireless router. In fact, I get a stronger signal from my router than I do with my Dell laptop. I actually don't have this netbook but played on it at the local Costco. I currently own Lenovo's version (S10). I will have to say that I wish I had this Acer One 10.1 over my Lenovo S10. The keys on the Acer are much sturdier and the netbook all around felt less toy-like and responsed much quicker than my Lenovo. Acer comes standard with 1GB RAM while Lenovo with 512MB. But I added a whole 1GB stick for a total of 1.5GB. Acer is still more responsive.

If I could go trade for this one I would... Know that if you buy this one, you're making a great netbook purchase. But just remember, it's a netbook, not a Core2Duo 2.5Ghz, etc, etc notebook.Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOD150-1920 10.1-Inch Ruby Red Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life.

It's a netbook - so comparing it to a regular laptop is not helpful. The screen is smaller. The keyboard is smaller so touch typing is not really possible. But it does what it's supposed to do, be small and cheap and usable. My one caveat is that it's not as light as advertised. With the 6 cell battery, the battery sticks out of the back and it's a bit heavy. Also, I don't like the touchpad buttons. Instead of a discrete left and right click button, it's a single button that will have the desired functionality based on which side you press it. I think it's lame - should be two buttons, but that's a minor gripe. Overall - a very good netbook.Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOD150-1920 10.1-Inch Ruby Red Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life.

SO..HEY WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR??

**Update:
I see I got stuck on the page with folks who are displeased and I got bad unhelpful review scoRes..it's okay. I've had it for days now and it still works like a charm..I am hoping it stays that way...So far so g00d!

I am hoping others whom are disappointed, hopefully gets a happy resolution...so, they can be soon.

****UPDATE:
It's May 16th.
I had to take my ACER back..for repairs, 2 weeks appox., after I got it: cost me $34 and some change to ship it back for repairs..my acer wouldn't come back on to get internet excess..it kept saying check your cable--modem..well, i use a router. Anyway i returned it...burned my cell-phone mins., got through to coustomer service..called on a Saturday..got someone in India--we ran a few test on it..nothing worked..had to ship it on Tuesday, when i was able to.

The UPS store didn't have their new address, i had to call again to make sure my info., was correct..this time it was a American answering, in Texas--lol!!!

The info., was correct..its just that they had a new repair place that hasn't been openned for 6months, to make a long story short..i sent it and was told that by email that I would know they got it and would know by email when they would send it back.
Well, they emailed me when they got it..however---didn't email me when they sent it back.. i called them and found out--it was mailed 2 days prior..*sigh*
well, i got it back 7 days later--through Fed-X.

Today..it works fine, I recommend you don't erase what's programmed on there (spy wear) and don't download allot of stuff, either. When I got it back they changed some things on there...but it's fine, i missed it when i didn't have it...and it works wonderfully.

I read all I could on the Aspire One, reviews, specs, etc. Also checked other netbooks.

I've always liked Acers and liked the 10" screen. The 8" just too small.

But my Acer Aspire is great. I'm still getting my files one it (I bought a flash drive to transfer files.) and learning to use it.

There was more software than indicated on it. Very glad Works came as part of the package.

The touchpad buttons are a bit stiff to use. And the documentation was minimal. Had to hunt for what software did what, etc. But, I can already see I'm going to love the Aspire One, it's portability, the built in web cam (which works great) and, of course, it has XP.

Got more than I expected. I like that. Get more detail about Acer Aspire One AOD150-1920 10.1-Inch Ruby Red Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life.

Up side: I bought this nice little netbook for my wife and we both love it. We got the diamond black version and both of us love the charcoal color of the hand rest. The built-in microphone, webcam and speakers make chatting on Skype an easy, enjoyable experience. For me, 3 USB ports is much better than 2 because I always have a USB mouse and USB flash drive hooked up. Great portability for making presentations. We use the netbook on the desk most of the time (not on the lap), but it doesn't overheat like some other computers do. The 10" screen, to me, is significantly better/larger than the 8.9" screen. I don't have large hands but I find the 85% keyboard usable (but not so much for the 8.9" versions). The hinge for changing the angle of the screen is surprisingly sturdy. The 802.11g Wi Fi is very fast. Firefox runs well and smooth despite taking up 200-300 MB of RAM sometimes. Although I have not used the first Aspire One, the AOD150 seems to be an improvement over the first edition.

Down side: the keyboard does feel a little flimsy. It's a netbook, so obviously it doesn't have an internal DVD/CD drive. But since that I've put it on a wireless router network, I have been able to share the DVD/CD drives on my desktop computer and run CDs and DVDs on the Aspire One remotely. The screen is glossy and so it does create reflections depending on the angle. For indoor viewing I don't have a problem with the glossiness. The trackpad, however, is not the most responsiveand so we use a mouse instead.

Comparison to the Lenovo S10: I seriously considered the Lenovo S10 netbook because they have very similar specs. Both have 10" screens, 160 GB HD, 1 GB RAM. But the Aspire One AOD150 has 3 USB ports and a 6-cell battery. We have not test-driven the battery enough to say anything, but a 6-cell battery should outperform a 3-cell battery (Lenovo S10).

Trivial: I also bought the Crucial 2GB 667 Mhz for $24 but have not installed it because so far the machine is running sufficiently well with 1GB RAM and that changing components on the computer may void the warranty. So maybe I'll install it after the warranty has expired.

Overall: Excellent little computer for $350 that contains almost everything that you need (except for internal drive). Acer has done a great job in creating a netbook that is both functional and portable at the same time. Cheapest Acer Aspire One AOD150-1920 10.1-Inch Ruby Red Netbook - 6.5 Hour Battery Life

We bought this notebook for my husband to use for light computing and connecting to the Internet. He was very happy with it for those uses. However, a few weeks (less than two months) after he got it, it started having errors on boot-up and wouldn't boot. I reinstalled the operating system and got the same error messages. So far, we were upset, but things do happen.

HOWEVER, when I called Acer Customer Support, they indicated that this was an unfixable problem (by me, anyway) and we would have to send it in for repair. Here's the problem: We have to pack it up and PAY OURSELVES for the shipping to their repair center in Texas, and it will take up to TWO WEEKS for repair.

I contrast this with my Sony laptop, which I use for work. It also had a problem a few weeks into its warranty period. Sony arranged with my local FedEx center for me to take the laptop in and that was all I had to do! FedEx packed it and shipped it 2-day air at Sony's cost. Sony fixed it and had it back to me in 2 more days, for a four day total turnaround. ACER LOOKS PRETTY BAD IN COMPARISON!

Anyway, just beware - if you have problems with your Acer, YOU are going to have to pack it for shipment, and YOU will pay for the shipment, and it's going to take a LONG time. If you can live with that possibility, my husband has been happy with the notebook otherwise.

Anyway, I'm giving this one star because of the cost and hassle with Acer's Customer Support. If they had stood behind their notebook (as Sony did) with timely no-cost-to-me customer support, I would have given them four stars out of five instead.
